Rajendra Kumar IAS, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Principal Secretary was arrested by CBI on Monday with four others.

He is accused of showing undue favours while awarding Government contracts worth over Rs 50 crore to a Private Company.

An IAS officer of 1989 Batch of UT cadre, Kumar along with Tarun Sharma, a Deputy Secretary in Kejriwal’s office were called for questioning at the CBI headquarters this morning besides three other private persons.

After half a day of questioning, the CBI placed the two officers under arrest. Also his close aide Ashok Kumar and owners of a private firm Sandeep Kumar and Dinesh Gupta were arrested.

CBI had lodged a FIR against Kumar and others in December 2015 alleging that the he had abused his official position by helping a specific Pvt. firm Endeavour Systems Pvt. Ltd for several years in getting Delhi Government Departments tenders.

The arrested accused persons will now be produced before court tomorrow.

In the same case CBI had come under severe criticism from Special Court when directions were issued to return documents seized during December 15, 2015 raids on Kejriwal’s office.

This FIR was registered on a complaint from Ashish Joshi former Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC) member to the Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) earlier last year.

ACB forwarded the complaint to CBI in July last followed by lodging of FIR after a five-month probe.

According to CBI, these five contracts were awarded to Endeavour Systems by nudging the processes when Kumar was Secretary, Health, as commissioner, trade and taxes and also as Secretary to the Chief Minister, he allegedly facilitated the award of Delhi Jal Board contract for enterprise resource planning to the firm without adopting Tender Process.
