The JNU Student Najeeb Ahmad has been missing since October last year.
High Court Bench comprising of Justice G S Sistani and Justice Rekha Palli transferred the matter to CBI on a plea by student’s mother after Delhi Police said it has no problem with such a direction.
High Court further added that probe by the CBI would be supervised by an officer, not less than rank of a DIG.
Delhi High Court observed that Delhi Police had implemented all the directions and suggestions given by Court.
The matter will be taken up next on July 17,2017.
Student had gone missing a day after altercation with some ABVP students on night of October 14, 2016. The RSS students’ wing in JNU has denied any involvement in his disappearance.
High Court had on May 12 rapped Police over the manner of its probe into disappearance of Ahmad, expounding that it appeared to be looking for an “escape route” and thus was “beating around the bush”.
High Court was hearing a plea by Najeeb’s mother, Fatima Nafees, seeking whereabouts about her son who went missing from JNU campus and is yet to be traced.
Now she is seeking dismantling of SIT and setting up of an independent SIT of the police officers from outside Delhi.
