Gujarat Assembly enhances punishment for Cow Slaughter to Life imprisonment

The present maximum sentence is seven-year term and fine upto Rs.50,000.

On Friday, Gujarat Assembly passed a bill against the cow slaughter with life imprisonment from the present seven-year term.

Bill also stated 10 years of imprisonment for transportation of the cows.

People in possession of beef will be slapped a fine of Rs.1-5 lakh along with a jail term of 7-10 years.

Earlier, maximum jail term for possession of cow meat was seven years and minimum of three years with fine of Rs.50,000.

State Assembly amended Gujarat Animal Preservation Act of 1954 which was last amended in 2011.
