Justice Karnan seeks relief from SC, CJI JS Khehar to consider his plea

On Thursday, Justice C S Karnan has sought the Apex Court’s relief in the matter of contempt of court for which he was sentenced to six months in jail.  CJI JS Khehar said the Supreme Court bench will consider the Calcutta Judge’s plea.

A petition about the recall has been mentioned before a 5 judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar, which has agreed to look into it.

The plea on behalf of Justice Karnan was made by Advocate Mathews J Nedumpara.

The advocate showed the notorized papers of authorization for filing the plea on behalf of the judge to the SC bench.

When the CJI asked about whereabouts of Justice CS Karnan, the advocate said that he’s “very much in Chennai”.

Advocate Nedumpara also told that 12 advocates had refused to represent Justice CS Karnan.

The 7 judge bench of the Supreme Court had on 9th May passed the order sentencing CS Karnan to jail by holding him guilty of contempt of court & ordering West Bengal Police to take him into custody.

However, before pronouncement of the SC order, Justice CS Karnan had left Kolkata for Chennai.

West Bengal police is yet to arrest the judge.
