It is said 20 MLAs were refusing to take food and water because of illegal restraint.

A day after telling Madras High Court that AIADMK legislators supporting party General Secretary V K Sasikala for Chief Minister’s post were not under illegal confinement and that they were staying in Government MLA Hostel in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Government has now admitted in court that it was an ‘incorrect’ statement.

After taking note of allegation that at least 20 MLAs were refusing to take food and water because they had been kept in confinement, High Court said that, “If it is true, it is a matter of serious concern.”

A Division Bench of Madras HC comprising Justice C T Selvam and Justice T Mathivanan had recorded the ‘incorrect’ statement.

Bench also recorded submission that many MLAs were refusing food and drink protesting their illegal confinement.

However, Court cannot act on mere say of counsel. Given the nature of case, it would only be appropriate to afford State an opportunity to inform its response.” It has thus adjourned the case to February 13 for the  further proceedings.
