NDTV India moves Supreme Court against 24 Hour Blackout of its TV Channel

NDTV India today moved the Supreme Court against the Central Government’s order banning its telecast of its Channel for a day.

Ban is for November 9 for its coverage of the Pathankot terror attack.

The NDTV petition has challenged the Constitutional validity of the Government order.

It is pleaded that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had directed stopping of transmission of its Hindi news channel, NDTV India for one day.

The 24 hour ban is from 00.01 hrs of November 9, 2016 till 00.01 hrs of November 10, 2016.

A senior advocate representing the News Channel is likely to mention the matter on Tuesday.

NDTV has in its Website mentioned that it has challenged the Government’s one-day ban.

The Channel has denied the Govt’s allegations and pointed out that other channels and newspapers reported the same information but only they are being targeted by meeting out the Punishment.

This ban has been condemned widely by journalists and editors.

All press councils drew parallels to the Emergency of the 1970s when basic constitutional rights, including the freedom of the press were openly curtailed and violated, as per NDTV .
