Netas to gear up for Presidential Election: Polling on July 17 and counting on July 20

President Pranab Mukherjee’s term is coming to an end on July 24.

Today, the Election Commission of India has announced that the polling for upcoming Presidential Election’ll be held on 17th July.

Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said that the counting of votes’ll begin on 20th July. Briefing the press on the election process in New Delhi, Nasim Zaidi said the poll body’ll be issuing a notification in this regard on 14th of June.

Zaidi said that the last date for the nominations is 28th June; date for scrutiny of the nomination is 30th June & last date for withdrawal of nomination is 1st July.

Voting’ll begin at 10 am on 17th July & will go on till 5 pm & the counting of votes’ll begin at 11 am on 20th July, he added.

On the same date, election will also be held for the post of Vice-President of India.

Meanwhile, the Opposition is yet to arrive at a consensus on having a common candidate.

NCP president Sharad Pawar, earlier ruled himself out of this Presidential race, saying it’s a “closed chapter” for him.

Some prominent names doing the rounds as Opposition candidate are former  the West Bengal governor – Gopal Krishna Gandhi; JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav & former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar of the Congress.

While the BJP-led NDA  is yet to drop any hints on who they’d be backing in the presidential race.
