In an interesting development the Income Tax Department has taken a decision to ‘name and shame’ all such Taxpayers who  are at default of Rs one crore and above.

The Department of Taxes has already begun making public the names, addresses, contacts, PAN card number etc of tax defaulters by publishing in leading national news papers.

In this drive so far they have named 67 big defaulters from different parts of the country till now with their vital details like and shareholders in case of companies.

What is significant is that prior to this drive past such exercise was restricted only to people with bigger defaults of about Rs 20-30 crore but the new drive will include even those names who are at a default of tax of Rs 1 crore or more. This would begin from this financial year itself,

Those included are both personal Taxpayers and corporate taxpayers who have a default of Rs 1 crore or more by March, 31 ie end of financial year.
