Now SC allows candidates above 25 years to take NEET Exam, form to be fill-up till April 5

Earlier, an eligible student above the age of 17 could apply, and there was no cap on the number of attempts but Govt. had put age limit at 25.

The Apex Court on Friday allowed medical aspirants of over 25 years of age to take this year’s NEET exam. It has also allowed them to fill forms for the examination till 5th April.

Earlier this month, a SC-appointed panel had vetoed govt’s move to cap the age of students as well as the no. of attempts they’re allowed to clear a top all India exam for entry into the undergraduate medical schools.

This panel, headed by the former chief justice R M Lodha, said it’s in favour of striking down the govt’s eligibility criteria since there’s a “dearth of doctors in our country”.

In January, the govt. issued an executive order limiting the no. of times a student could take the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) to 3 .

It had also capped eligibility age of candidates at 25 – on recommendations of the Medical Council of India (MCI). The govt’s order was challenged by the students.

Earlier, there was no cap on the number of attempts.
