SC asks Modi Govt: Will you give another chance to Citizens to deposit demonetised Rs.500/1000 Currency Notes?

Bench said that did not give equal opportunity to Citizens as it gave to the NRIs.

Apex Court on Tuesday asked the Centre whether it intended to give another chance to deposit demonetized currency under Ordinance to the people with genuine difficulty.

SC said PM Modi’s 8th November speech had given hope to the citizens who were in difficulty to deposit by 31st December that they would get another chance till 31st March after explaining their difficulty.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar asked the govt. to explain in affidavit by 11th April why the window was given only to NRIs & Indians who travelled abroad & not to other citizens who had faced difficulty in depositing scrapped currency notes before 31st December.
