Health Minister has failed to appreciate the urgency of the matter, SC
Supreme Court has today ordered Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain to pay up a cost of Rs 25000 in his personal capacity on account of delay in disclosing names of officers who were allegedly not abiding by his orders on dealing with vector-borne diseases Dengue and Chikungunya.
C U Singh counsel for Minister Jain’s apprised the Bench that his affidavit containing names of such non-compliant officers was ready but the court replied that it would impose a cost on the Health Minister for his failure to appreciate the urgency of the matter.
Counsel complained that they were given just 24 hours to file an affidavit, a bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur retorted that people were dying every hour.
As such bench gave him more time only on the condition that AAP Minister Jain pays a Rs. 25,000 cost in his personal capacity.
During the last hearing on Friday, Jain had filed a his affidavit claiming that some officers are not taking orders from him in order to disable the AAP government from effectively tackling the diseases.
Upon this, the bench said Minister Jain must share with the Court the names of all such officers as merely making such claims and excuses won’t work.
