Bench ruled that this “malaise” of benefits not reaching the grassroot can be taken care of by the Aadhaar scheme.
Former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s famous remark that only 15 paise of every rupee for the welfare of downtrodden reaches them found mention in judgement of Apex Court on Friday, in which Court expounded that this “malaise” can be taken care of by the Aadhaar scheme.
The Supreme Court Bench enunciated that,“Former PM of India has gone on record to say that out of one rupee spent by Government for the welfare of downtrodden, only 15 paisa thereof actually reaches those persons for whom it is meant for”.
Apex Court Bench comprising of Justice A K Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan,”It cannot be doubted that with the UID/Aadhaar much of malaise in this field can be taken care of”.
SC Bench further added that,”Aadhaar can take care of the malaise of duplicate beneficiaries reaping fruits of the welfare schemes meant for genuine deprived class.
Supreme Court further expounded that major hurdle in the transfer of benefits to genuine needy is lack of the means to correctly identify the such persons.
