Senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar gets Anticipatory Bail in 1984 Riots Case

Sajjan Kumar named accused after 32 Years.

Today a Delhi Court has granted Anticipatory Bail to Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Vikas Dhull, Additional Sessions Judge allowed the Application for anticipatory bail of Kumar in a case where he was accused of instigating a mob to kill two Sikhs — Sohan Singh and son Avtar Singh — in Janakpuri in Delhi in November, 1984.

What is interesting in the matter is that Cong Leader’s name was taken by the witness for the first time only after 32 Years.

Sajjan Kumar was neither named in the FIR nor his name was taken by anyone in the case when an Untrace Report was filed in the matter by Delhi Police.

The case was taken up recently by a SIT, special investigation team. It is now that his name found mention after three decades.

The court granted Bail subject to furnishing a personal bond of Rs one lakh, and directed him not to leave the country without permission of the Court.

Accused was also directed to join the investigation and appear before the probe agency.

Direction was issued that he will neither influence witnesses nor try to tamper with the evidence.

In Delhi, post the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by two of her Sikh bodyguards.riots had taken place in 1984.
