Supreme Court issues complete Ban on sale of Firecrackers in National Capital Region

Central Pollution Control Board asked to study the effects of “harmful materials” used in firecrackers

Supreme Court has banned fresh issuance of any Licence to sell Fire Crackers and suspended all the Licence already issued by the Goveernment.

The Apex Court has today issued a blanket ban on the sale of all kinds of fire crackers in the National Capital Region, citing the grave quality of Air in the recent past.

The order has been passed by a Bench of Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur and Justices AK Sikri and S.A. Bobde.

The order is passed on a petition filed by three infants children of Delhi through their Parents.

The Petitioner children claimed that the Air smog caused by firecrackers post Diwali celebrations was  choking their right to live.

The petition highlighted the disdain shown by people to all those affected by the pollution.

Now the Apex court has banned fresh issuance of any licence to sell firecrackers and suspended the sale licence already issued.

The Bench ordered the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to study the effects of “harmful materials” used in the manufacture of firecrackers and report is to be filed back in three months.

Chief Justice Thakur told Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, to see if the materials used cause in Crackers can cause any cancerous diseases,
