Justice CS Karnan is the first ever sitting judge of a High Court in judicial history to be sent to Jail.
On Wednesday, the Apex Court refused to grant relief to Justice CS Karnan, in the contempt of court case in which he has been sentenced to 6 month imprisonment.
Supreme Court earlier on 19th May rejected Justice CS Karnan’s plea for recall of his 6 month jail term for contempt of court, stating that the petition wasn’t maintainable in the court.
The SC Registrar said in the order that he is constrained but to hold that the present writ petition isn’t maintainable & if there’s any relief it lies somewhere else.
The Supreme Court also banned media from publishing the orders passed by Justice Karnan during his tenure.
Apex court had taken suo motu cognizance of a lot of letters written by Justice Karnan against the judges of the Madras HC & the Supreme court, and SC restrained him from exercising judicial & administrative powers from 8th February onwards.
