We cannot encourage political activism in the courtroom, said the Bench.
Supreme Court rapped Ashwini Upadhyay, Delhi BJP spokesperson for filing multiple Public Interest Litigations (PILs).
Apex Court posed a query to BJP Spokesperson that, “Is this the job that BJP has given to you? Is BJP financing you to carry campaign for party in the court”.
Ashwini Upadhyay had apparently filed four PILs and one of which was being heard by the Supreme Court and which was consequently dismissed by the Court.
Supreme Court further asked BJP Spokesperson that, “You have become professional PIL activist and we see you everyday filing the PIL’s. It’s BJP which is in power at the Centre so why don’t you approach Government for your grievances”.
While dismissing the PIL, Apex Court stated that,”We don’t want to encourage the practice of political activist’s trying to use judicial forum for political gains”.
