September,21,2015: A 34-year-old lawyer, Sukhmanpreet (Sippy) Singh Sidhu, was shot dead in a park in Sector 27 in Chandigarh on Sunday night. He was a grandson of a retired Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice S.S. Sidhu. His father, the late IPS Sidhu, was an Additional Advocate-General of Punjab. His family has ruled out any enmity.
Chandigarh Police on Monday (21 September) launched investigation into the mysterious death of a lawyer whose body was found in a park here late Sunday. Police officials said the body of Sukhmanpreet Singh, about 36 years old and a resident of neighbouring Mohali town in Punjab, was found in a Sector 27 park.
“The body had two bullet marks, one each on chest and neck. We are working on various leads,” an official said.
Sippy was a National Level shooterAccording to the police, Sippy was shot with a 12-bore gun, and pellets hit him on the face, chest, back and arm.Sippy’s car was recovered from near the spot.The police are analysing the call detail records of his mobile phone, which was recovered from the spot.
The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy at GMSH, Sector 16.Sippy, a resident of Phase 3B2, Mohali, was the chairman of a Mohali-based law firm. He was a former national-level shooter and was active in politics.
The wounded lawyer was spotted by some passers-by who informed the police. He was rushed to a Government hospital where he was declared dead.
The lawyer’s car was found parked about 200 metres away.
